Chenopodium album, commonly known as broad-leaved goosefoot or fat hen, is a fast-growing weedy annual plant of the genus Chenopodium. The leaves of this plant are heart-shaped, with several teeth on each side of the margin, hairless and rough to the touch. They are bright green and paler beneath. In India, the plant is popularly known as "Bathua" and is found abundantly in the winter season. Its leaves can be eaten raw or steamed like spinach. However, you should limit the amount of raw leaves eaten as they contain oxalic acid that can be toxic in large amounts. They are used to make the most popular "Bathua ka Saag" in North India
